After 9 years of compulsory school, students can choose an extra year to become more mature, get better grades and get ready for further education, such as high school (gymnasium) or at a vocational school.
We want our students to improve academically, personally and socially.
Here at our school we have no classes. Our 200 students are divided into 4 "blocks". Three of the blocks have the same foundation, where the last one, block E, only consists of 10-20 students. This block is for students who are fed up with schooling and want to spend only three days in school and two days in working practice. This is being done to prevent early drop out.
The other blocks (A, B & C) have their main subject (Danish, math & English) at the same time, but are divided into 4 classes depending of their level, needs and way of learning. There are 3 levels/profiles - 1 is for the student with good academiv standards and 3 is for the student who can use more help.
This means that you will be in class with different students in each subject. For instance you can be on profile 1 in Danish and 3 in Math.
Each teacher has about 15 contact students, as we call it. Each student has the right of at least 7 individual conversations with his/her contact teacher, in a year. These conversations are placed within the weekly schedule on Tuesday mornings. Most of these "contact teacher lessons" are with individual conversations and some are with the whole group of contact students.
At the beginning of a school year, we have a parents' meeting in each block. Here they get a lot of information about the school year..
Three times a year, the parents come to school for individual talks about their children and the student is also present. Before each meeting, teachers make an evaluation on each students, on their academic, personal and social skills.
The students create their own time schedule. Danish, math and English are already placed, but the rest of the subjects, the students choose by themselves.. Examples:
